GT is back
Born in SoCal in the early ‘70s, GT has been at the forefront of BMX and then mountain mountain biking since their beginnings. With their release of the Sensor (and it’s 27.5"-wheeled, longer travel brother, the Force), GT has their sights set on the upper echelon of performance and capability. 2019 ushers in a new era of bikes for GT. Unimpeded feedback from the GT Sensor
The new Sensor takes a grounded approach towards making a bike that’s ready to fly. 130mm (5.12”) of rear travel combined with a 130mm fork, this bike uses sensibly progressive geometry to create a bike that’ll have you smiling wherever you ride it. The flip chip in the lower shock mount allows you to drop the head angle from 66 degrees to a race ready 65.5, which also pushes the chainstays and wheelbase a few more millimeters for added stability and confidence.
Linkage Tuned Suspension
GT’s Linkage Tuned Suspension platform isolates braking forces from the action of the rear wheel, and maintains a consistent shock leverage curve that is extremely predictable, yet progressive enough to run your favorite coil or air shock. The Trunnion upper shock mount reduces initial compression stiction by doing away with a traditional DU-bushing style upper shock mount, and replacing it with sealed cartridge bearings. These are mounted directly to the top of the shock, doing away with the upper eyelet, and allowing GT’s engineers to fit a longer stroke shock to the Sensor's chassis. This makes for a lower leverage rate, and higher performance suspension, providing buttery-smooth suspension feel as well as improved small bump compliance. The LTS platform is also incredibly easy to service for those home mechanics out there. No rocket science, no special tools, no proprietary components - just no-nonsense, reliable parts and bearings.
Mid-level build kit with little compromise
With many carbon trail bikes soaring well past $5,000, it's refreshing to see GT buck the trend with an affordable build option for the Sensor, coming in at just under $3,000. The Elite build comes in at an incredibly competitive price, sporting parts such as a SRAM NX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain, Rock Shox Sektor / Super Deluxe suspension, Stan's tubeless rims, and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes.
